PEI is Canada's smallest province and perhaps its most gentle — red sandstone cliffs, green rolling fields, and a pace of life that assumes you have nowhere urgent to be. Confederation was born here; Anne of Green Gables never left.

No. 01 · The land

An island of red earth

Iron-rich soil gives the cliffs and beaches their distinctive colour. Farmland covers most of the island — potatoes, blueberries, and hay fields divided by hedgerows. Beaches are long, empty, and often overlooked.

No. 02 · The people

Small place, big stories

Everyone knows everyone, or knows someone who does. Charlottetown punches above its weight in food and culture. The island's literary heritage — Lucy Maud Montgomery most famously — draws pilgrims from around the world.

No. 03 · A small ritual

Bike the Confederation Trail

Rent a bicycle. Follow the old railway bed across the island. Stop at a farm stand for new potatoes. The wind is always from the sea. You will not be in a hurry.
