Cape Enrage

Best · May – Oct

Cape Enrage sits on a narrow headland where the Bay of Fundy funnels the Atlantic into a daily spectacle. When the tide retreats, it exposes a broad shelf of red sandstone and barnacle-covered rock — a kilometre of seabed you can walk across before the water returns.

The tide as clock

Twice a day, roughly six hours apart, the bay drains and fills with more than 100 billion tonnes of water. At Cape Enrage the vertical range can exceed 11 metres. Locals plan their days around it: low tide for beachcombing and fossil hunting, high tide for kayaking beneath the cliffs.

The lighthouse and the zip line

A restored 1838 lighthouse keeper's house now holds a small interpretive centre and café. Below the cape, a zip line runs across the cove — not a gimmick, but a way to feel the scale of the cliffs and the pull of the tide from above the rock face.

What to expect

The beach below is accessible only at low tide, and the window is narrow. Check tide tables before you go. The rocks are slippery. Wear shoes with grip, not sandals. Fog rolls in without warning. That's part of it.
